MAINE, USA — Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine, has announced he will not seek re-election for Congress in 2026.
"I'm confident that were I to run again, I would win," Golden said in a post on X. "But recent events have made me reconsider whether the good I can do in Congress still outweighs the cost to my family."
Golden shared a link to an op-ed he wrote about his decision that was published in the Bangor Daily News. In it, he referenced recent political violence and threats made to his family as reasons for his decision.
"I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished in decades of public service," Golden wrote. "Now, I look forward to my next chapter: raising my young daughters with Izzy and spending more time with our family and friends."
