Rep. Jared Golden won't run for reelection in 2026, the Maine Democrat announced Wednesday.
Golden represents Maine's 2nd congressional district, which is one of the most Republican-leaning parts of New England, and his departure may offer the GOP a greater chance of picking up a seat in Congress in 2026.

Golden announced his decision in an opinion piece in the Bangor Daily News , writing that he hopes to spend more time with his wife and young daughters, who've been increasingly forced to deal with threats tied to his job in the political sphere.
