FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A high school football player is facing criminal charges after police said he hit one of his opponents in the head with a helmet during a Halloween game in Florida.

The Fernandina Beach Police Department announced Tuesday that it had obtained an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Daniel Byers, a player from Bell High School.

Authorities said the incident unfolded mid-game, as Bell High School was facing Fernandina Beach High School. According to police, Byers "aggressively pushed" and then removed the helmet of a 15-year-old Fernandina Beach player. He then hit the 15-year-old in the head with his own helmet, officials said.
