Local high school students are invited to compete in the annual American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program, hosted by Alvin Hugh Harris Post 57.

The contest, announced by Post Oratorical Chairman Charles Wilson, is conducted with support from local school officials and is designed to encourage students to develop a deeper understanding of the U.S. Constitution.

Participants must deliver an original 8- to 10-minute prepared oration on some aspect of the Constitution, with an emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to the U.S. government.

The Post 57 competition will be held Jan. 25, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Coweta Veterans Club, located at 130 Veterans Club Road in Newnan. Cash prizes of $350, $250, and $150 will be awarded to the first-, second-, and third-place
