The shocking decision by Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont to cross the floor from the Conservatives to the Liberals is the ultimate political betrayal.
He is, however, quite within his rights to do so. In our parliamentary style of government, his seat belongs to the person, not the party.
But at this critical point, he’s turning his back on those who elected him. The last election was a mere six months ago. He narrowly won his riding of Acadie-Annapolis. At that time, he was supported by Conservatives who raised money and knocked on doors not so much because they wanted him elected, but because they supported a Conservative platform that promised lower spending and a smaller deficit.
