PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has been convicted for a fatal shooting at a Central Peoria gas station two years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 27-year-old Amorta Nelson was found guilty of First Degree Murder on Wednesday in the death of Antonio Hardy.
Hardy was shot at Coopers gas station at Sheridan and McClure and later died at a hospital in September of 2023.
Prosecutors say surveillance video captured the shooting, where Nelson got out of a vehicle and shot Hardy three times in the back from behind while Hardy was pumping gas, then shot him in the head once more, killing him.
Prosecutors say cell phone data corroborated with the video and witness testimony, placing Nelson and Hardy together in the area at the time of the shooting.
Sentencing is set for Decem
