BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Alabama Leadership Program hosted a heroes luncheon honoring American military veterans who served in different branches of the armed forces.
Many attendees were Medal of Honor and Purple Heart recipients.
The luncheon was held at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham and featured keynote speaker U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Carlos Evans.
Evans stepped on an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan, losing both legs and his left hand. Despite the challenges he has faced, Evans reminded the crowd of what’s important.
