JERUSALEM >> Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech in the New York mayoral race was carried live on Israeli television and radio, a sign of the deep concern in the Jewish state about the next leader of the city with the world’s largest population of Jews.
His election triumph prompted an emotional and often overheated debate that skipped past asking whether it would be damaging to American Jews and to Israel’s standing in the United States and moved quickly to questioning how devastating it would be for an ardent critic of Israel to hold the mayoral office in New York.
