EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — It's been a little over a month since the government shutdown started, and its impact on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has left thousands of Rhode Islanders struggling to make ends meet without their benefits.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley joined 12 News at 4 to discuss the latest efforts his city is doing to try and assist those who are going hungry.

Smiley also weighed in on the potential closing of Fatima Hospital and Roger Williams Hospital and reforms made to the Community-Police Relations Act.
