EAST BOSTON, Mass. —

As Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announces cuts to air traffic in "high-volume" markets beginning on Friday, Massport officials say they're monitoring the situation.

"Massport will provide the public with more information if we start to see staffing shortages or other issues causing impacts to flight operations at Logan, or our other two airports," a spokesperson said.

Duffy said Wednesday flight traffic will be reduced by 10% in 40 markets to maintain safety.

He did not say which markets will be affected.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it's confronting staffing shortages caused by unpaid air traffic controllers calling out of work, resulting in delays.

The air traffic controllers have not been receiving a paycheck during the government shutdown
