BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - An estimated 33,000 people use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the Brazos Valley, and there are still more people who qualify for the program.
The Brazos Valley Food Bank shared some common claims that people need to understand aren’t true:
MYTH : EBT Cards won’t work during the government shutdown .
FACT : The food bank says cards with money on them will work the same. However, it’s unclear when those cards will get reloaded with new funds.
MYTH : SNAP offices are closed during the government shutdown.
FACT : SNAP offices are run by the state and not impacted by the federal government shutdown.
MYTH : SNAP recipients won’t get missed benefits.
FACT : Recipients will be compensated for all missed benefits. It’s just unclear
