LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The City of Laredo is offering temporary utility payment relief for federal workers affected by the government shutdown .
City Council approved the program to help federal employees defer water, sewer and trash bills without penalties, late fees or service cuts.
Federal workers can qualify by bringing a letter of employment and a federal ID badge to the Utilities Customer Service Division at City Hall Annex, located at 1102 Bob Bullock Lp.
“That’s where we come in, and we say, ‘Okay, if you identify yourself at the utilities department, then they will defer the payment,’” said Gilbert Gonzalez, Laredo City Councilmember for District 1. “So they don’t have to pay, and they can concentrate on paying their groceries and other stuff.”
