KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it will reduce air traffic by 10% across 40 "high-volume" markets beginning Friday, it appears Kansas City International Airport (KCI) could be affected.

The FAA is reducing air traffic in response to staffing shortages among air traffic controllers due to the ongoing government shutdown.

At this time, it's unknown whether or not KCI will be affected. However, according to the FAA, Kansas City's airport is right on the line – sitting at the 40th-highest-volume airport in the country.

On Wednesday afternoon, the City of Kansas City, Missouri said that the Kansas City Aviation Department (KCAD) is monitoring the situation, but had not been made aware whether KCI will be one of the 40 airports.
