ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) - The Elyria School District’s proposed levy failed to pass by over 900 votes on Election Day, failing for the second time this year.

Issue 17 received 4,552 no votes in Tuesday’s general election, according to Lorain County’s unofficial results .

“That’s sad,” said Jessica, wanting to drop off her daughter, Reese, at preschool in Elyria’s Early Childhood Village. “It makes me sad for our kids.

If approved, the levy would have raised over $6 million a year over a 10-year span to cover the district’s operating expenses.

“It’s busing, it’s teacher’s salaries, it’s supplies, it’s purchasing services like gas bills and electric bills,” said Superintendent Ann Schloss.

The proposal was also voted down earlier this year in the May 6th primary election.
