A man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing in Melbourne’s CBD early Thursday morning that left one person injured.

Police allege a man armed with a knife was acting erratically as he ran through a shopping centre carpark on Lonsdale Street about 6am.

Two bystanders pursued the man south along Elizabeth Street before detaining him near the intersection of Lonsdale Street. Officers arrived moments later and arrested a 32-year-old man from Dallas.

During the scuffle, a 41-year-old man from Maddingley was stabbed in the lower body. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A second bystander, a 35-year-old man from Sanctuary Lakes, assisted in restraining the suspect and was not injured.
