CENTRAL CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Brianna Kelley, who lives with Down Syndrome and is hard of hearing, found her calling through an unexpected path that began with sheep on her family’s farm.

Her parents, Sara and Doug Kelley, said finding employment for Brianna was challenging because communication barriers made it difficult to find a job that fit her abilities.

During COVID, the Kelleys bought four sheep for their farm. When the sheep were first sheared, they took the wool to a mill. When the mill’s loom went up for sale, the Kelleys brought it home.

Brianna took to weaving immediately.

“Brianna didn’t want me to try it. She took over. She wanted to do it. So she liked it right away,” Sara Kelley said.

After buying the loom, the Kelleys visited Annandale Art and Textile Center in Minnesot
