BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- There's been an uptick in break-ins at local businesses across Buffalo, and a bakery in North Buffalo is the latest victim.
According to Buffalo police, someone broke into Fairy Cakes Bakeshop on Parkside Avenue in North Buffalo around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
"It's just one of those things that you never expect to happen to you until it does, and it's utterly shocking," said owner Nicolle Reed. "It's so sad to see because us small businesses are here struggling to make it just as much as anyone else and it takes such a hit from us."
The suspect smashed the front door of the bakery, damaged the point of sale system, and ran off with $200 in cash. Reed said repairs are estimated to cost around $5,000.
