ATLANTA — A former Hawks executive who was one of the team's highest-ranking financial officers is facing a federal wire fraud case over allegations he defrauded the team out of $3.8 million for vacations, a Porsche and more personal expenses.

According to a charging document out of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Lester T. Jones Jr. was the Hawks' senior vice president for finance from 2018 to this year. The role made him the "most senior accounting executive in the Company after the Chief Financial Officer."

Federal prosecutors have accused Jones of using that authority in a scheme to submit "dozens of fraudulent expense reimbursement requests," including fake invoices for business expenses that didn't exist, and by "charging millions of dollars in persona
