WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Three students were arrested after getting into a fight at Woonsocket High School around 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

So far this school year, at least two dozen students have been arrested for fighting in the district's schools.

Police Chief Thomas Oates told 12 News that two 14-year-old girls and a 16-year-old girl have been charged with disorderly conduct.

At a school committee meeting last month, Woonsocket Superintendent Patrick McGee called the rash of fights "embarrassing" and promised the community that staff are trying to be proactive about preventing fighting.

Woonsocket School Committee chairman Paul Bourget previously told 12 News that social media appears to be a contributing factor in the altercations.
