BLACKSHEAR, Ga. — The daughter and sister of the two victims shot and killed inside their Blackshear home speak out about what life has been like since that horrific morning of October 25.
Pierce County deputies said they caught the suspect, 30-year-old Avery Courson, charging him with murder for the deaths of 64-year-old Virgil Chaney and 37-year-old Christopher Chaney. Virgil was the father of Christopher.
“We’re a very small town. These types of crimes just don’t happen here. It’s very rare for this to happen,” said Jacob Winters, chief investigator of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
He said deputies received the call around 10 am in the area of Highway 121 South, in the southern part of Pierce County.
“It’s a terrible scene, one of the worst I’ve ever been to,” said Winters.
