While the consensus is Democrats have gained an advantage in their attempt to oust David Valadao with the passage of Proposition 50, it's not a sure thing and the race for Valadao's seat is still expected to be competitive when it comes to the 2026 midterm election.
Among those who are calling the race in the Congressional District 22 a toss up is the Cook Political Report. Valadao represents District 22, which includes Porterville. But the Cook Political Report has changed its rating for District 22 from leans Republican to a toss up.
And the Cook Political Report still rates Valadao's seat as the most difficult pickup in the state after its redistricting caused by Prop. 50.
