WASHINGTON — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued 18 warning letters to online retailers accused of illegally marketing unapproved and misbranded botulinum toxin products, often advertised as “Botox,” the agency announced Wednesday.
According to the FDA , the unapproved injectables pose serious safety risks, including symptoms consistent with botulism, a potentially life-threatening condition that can cause paralysis or respiratory failure. The FDA said it has received reports of adverse reactions linked to the unauthorized products.
