WHITESTOWN, Ind. (WXIN) – A woman died following a shooting at an Indiana neighborhood in what appeared to be a case of mistaken identity, according to police in Whitestown.
The Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department reported that early Wednesday morning they responded to a reported shooting and found a woman dead on the porch of a home. Officers said it appeared a shot had been fired from inside, with a bullet hole spotted in the front door.
Initially, police were told the incident was a home invasion but after further investigation WMPD said in a statement, "the facts gathered do not support that a residential entry occurred." It appears the woman was part of a cleaning crew who had arrived at the wrong address, police said.
The woman was already dead when police arrived, according
