CALERA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - City leaders in Calera are taking an extra security step to make sure residents’ garbage is picked up when it’s supposed to be.
Surveillance cameras are now mounted to several garbage trucks to protect drivers and ensure neighbors get the service they are paying for.
“I think it’s great,” said Candace Byers. “The city has been needing something like this for a long time.”
Byers added that she has never had a problem but knows some neighbors have had trash pickup complaints before.
She welcomes this new technology that can help.
“It’s great just to know that we can hold people accountable,” she said. “We can make sure, you know, if there is a discrepancy we’re able to go back and check it.”
