NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — More than 100 employees at Newport News Shipbuilding have now been let go after being put on furlough in June , according to Huntington Ingalls’ Newport News Shipbuilding division.
A shipyard spokesman confirmed the news to 13News Now on Wednesday afternoon.
“We have made the difficult decision to move forward with a reduction in force of about a third of the 471 salaried shipbuilders at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division who were put on furlough back in June,” said Todd Corillo, media relations manager for Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding. “This decision comes after careful review of our salaried workforce and business needs.
