A Virginia man is facing a long list of disturbing charges after investigators say he was caught with obscene material involving animals and allegedly met with an underage girl, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jason Zirkle II was arrested after the sheriff’s office received a report on Monday, Nov. 3, about a man meeting with an underage girl, according to the agency.
Members of the Child Victim’s Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) responded and began investigating, officials said.
After obtaining search warrants and reviewing evidence, Zirkle was charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse of animals — including the production or possession of obscene items depicting a person engaged in sexual contact with an animal — and one count of use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children, the sheriff’s office said.
Officials said the department works closely with the NOVA-DC Internet Crimes Against Children Virginia State Police Taskforce and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to investigate and prevent crimes of child exploitation.
“As a community, it is up to us to keep our children safe,” the department said, urging anyone who believes a child is being abused to contact authorities or the NCMEC hotline.
