A longtime Pennsylvania couple — both nurses — were found dead inside their home Wednesday, Nov. 5, in what investigators say was an apparent murder-suicide.

Fairview Township Police were called to a home at 192 Wilcox Drive in New Cumberland around 6:38 a.m. for a reported shooting, according to a statement from the Fairview Township Police Department and York County Office of Emergency Management.

Inside, police found 68-year-old Ann Savidge and 71-year-old Donald Savidge dead in a bedroom.

Investigators determined that Donald shot his wife before turning the gun on himself, the York County Coroner’s Office said.

Ann’s death was ruled a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the head, while Donald’s death was ruled a suicide from the same cause.

Deputy Coroners Riley Gordon and Michelle Alarcon Hasing responded to investigate and certify the deaths.

Authorities emphasized that the tragedy was contained to the residence and that there was no threat to the public.

The Fairview Township Police Department is leading the investigation with help from Newberry Township Police, the York County Quick Response Team, York County Forensics, the York County Coroner’s Office, York County 911, and York County Emergency Management.

Officials thanked all responding agencies for their professionalism and coordination at the scene.

Public records show Donald Savidge was a nurse anesthetist and Ann Savidge was a registered nurse. The couple had lived at their Wilcox Drive home since 1999, according to property records.

No autopsies will be performed, though routine toxicology was obtained, the coroner’s office said. Next of kin have been notified.
