A 15-year-old boy who was critically injured in a three-car crash last month has died from his injuries at an area hospital, with his family by his side.
Dillon Dupuis, a sophomore at Glastonbury High School, and another teenager suffered catastrophic injuries in the Oct. 24 wreck on Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury, police said. Dupuis had remained in the hospital ever since.
On Wednesday, Glastonbury High School Principal Dr. Nancy Bean emailed parents, teachers, and staff to tell them Dupuis had succumbed to his injuries.
It is with great sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that one of our students, Dillon Dupuis, has passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident last week. Dillon was a cherished member of the GHS community, participating in various activities, including the Crew Team, band, and Glastonbury Fire Cadets. His warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family and friends as they navigate this tremendous loss.
Bean said counselors, psychologists, and other support staff will be available in the school's library for anyone who needs help or just someone to talk to.
Glastonbury High School will hold a memorial in Dupuis' honor. According to NBC Connecticut, organizers will play music from the teenager's favorite band, Aerosmith, during the school's “Music in the Morning” program.
The school said the band was one of Dupuis' favorites. His first concert was seeing Aerosmith perform at Fenway Park for his birthday.
Loved ones launched a GoFundMe for the Dupuis family before Dillon's death. The campaign has raised more than $51,000 of its $60,000 goal from more than 600 donors as of Wednesday evening.
The campaign aimed to help cover medical costs for his care. Despite Dupuis' death, those hospital bills remain.
Organizers said Dillon's mother, stepfather, father, and sisters remained at his bedside around the clock, and his extended family has continued praying for him since the crash.
"Please keep Dillon in your thoughts and prayers, lift his family with love, and help in whatever way you can," organizers wrote. "Let’s rally around him and show this incredible 15-year-old and his family that they’re not alone in this fight."
The crash that killed Dupuis remains under investigation. Glastonbury police urge anyone with information about it to contact Officer Brendan Lynch at (860) 633-8301.
