With California voters approving new congressional districts with the passage of Proposition 50 on Tuesday, the state’s longest-serving GOP member of Congress — Rep. Ken Calvert — announced Wednesday that he plans to run in a newly drawn district currently represented by a fellow Republican.

That means he'll no longer represent parts of the Coachella Valley, as he has since the 2022 election. Instead, the move puts him on track for a head-to-head matchup with one of his colleagues from the state's GOP delegation, Rep. Young Kim, who plans to seek re-election.
