NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) -- A section of the Constitution Trail cut off by the train will get a long-anticipated underpass, but the taxes to fund the tunnel left many displeased.

The Normal Town Council on Monday approved on a 4-3 vote an underpass to be built underneath the train tracks on the Southeast side of the Uptown Circle.

Currently, anyone traveling along the south part of the constitution trail needs cross a train crossing to get into Uptown. Amtrak and freight trains go through the town daily, momentarily stopping those would be crossers.

Illinois State University Student Jamare Mason said he's constantly stopped by trains.
