MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- MATC is lending a helping hand to its students who are dads.

Wednesday, the technical college hosted a free car seat safety event at its downtown transportation center, giving students a car seat for their child and teaching them how to properly use it.

It's part of the school's MATC Drive program, where students get access to coaching, extracurricular activities and resources.

Faculty say they know going to school as a new parent is a lot to juggle, so they want to help out.

"We wanted to make sure that we provide what we call holistic support to our students," said Reggie Parks, MATC Drive retention coach. "And we know that sometimes our student parents have extra struggle, a unique struggle, so we're trying to find ways to make their personal, career an
