Vermont State University has conferred the title of president emeritus upon David Wolk, honoring his service to Vermont and his leadership in furthering public higher education across the state.

Wolk served as Castleton University (formerly Castleton State College) longest-serving president from 2001 to 2017. During his tenure, growth in academics, student life and athletics, community engagement and investment in facilities elevated Castleton’s profile statewide and nationally, including transition to university status in 2015.

His career also includes roles as Vermont Commissioner of Education, superintendent of schools, and elected public service in the Vermont State Senate. Since retiring, he has remained engaged through Wolk Leadership Solutions, volunteer work,
