It’s homecoming season in high school football, and for one North Texas town, this year’s celebration means much more than usual.

Gordon High School’s football stadium was severely damaged in a tornado back in May. But tonight, the town is looking to the future and sending those bad memories up in smoke.

In Palo Pinto County, the town of Gordon gathered for a massive bonfire on Wednesday night, where every piece of the pile was a symbol of their strength.

“We are burning a lot of debris from the tornado,” said Holly Campbell, Gordon ISD’s superintendent.

Back in May, an EF-1 tornado ripped through this area, severely damaging homes, businesses, and the Gordon ISD athletic fields.

Gordon ISD had to cancel the rest of the school year as they started the long process of rebuilding.
