JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The annual Veterans Day ceremony at Camp Nelson National Cemetery has been cancelled this year due to the government shutdown.
The Central Kentucky Veterans Committee announced the cancellation Wednesday. Army veteran and vice chair of the committee Skip Kraemer talked to WKYT about the move.
“There won’t be any ceremonies to go to and there are no celebrations that I know of,” Kraemer said.
Kraemer said he is disappointed that disagreements in Washington led to this moment.
“It’s really unfortunate. That just should not happen. I don’t believe they thought this far into it,” Kraemer said.
Although the cemetery remains open, the necessary workers to help carry out the event are furloughed, Kraemer explained.
