MURRAY – Playhouse in the Park’s Penguin Project will bring the popular Nickelodeon character SpongeBob SquarePants and all his underwater friends to the stage for the next two weekends.
This will be the 10th year for the Penguin Project, which features children with developmental disabilities performing modified Broadway musicals. This year’s production is the youth edition of “The SpongeBob Musical,” a show that debuted in Chicago in 2016 and had its Broadway premiere the following year, eventually earning 12 Tony Award nominations. The music and lyrics are by various well-known artists, and the book was written by Kyle Jarrow, based on the animated TV series created by Stephen Hillenburg.
