Federal Aviation Administration officials said Wednesday flights will be cut in some parts of the country that could include the Bay Area as a historic government shutdown now stretches into its 36th day.
The FAA says it will be cutting the number of flights in what it calls “high traffic” parts of the country starting Friday morning.
Federal officials pointed directly to what’s happening with air traffic controllers, that if the government shutdown continues, will have been working unpaid since Oct. 1.
Some have resorted to calling out sick to take on other jobs.
The FAA says that looks like a 10% reduction in capacity at 40 locations – and SFO is likely to fall into that category according to a spokesperson.
But it’s carriers that will now have to decide how to achieve the reduction
