The Maharashtra government is expanding CCTV coverage from urban to rural areas and taking it a step further by connecting these cameras to artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

According to officials from the state’s Home Department, these AI-enabled CCTV cameras will help police quickly access crucial data such as information about criminals and vehicles used in crimes. Additionally, the state plans to make CCTV installation mandatory for private establishments, including shops and offices. A policy is currently being developed to enforce this requirement.
