HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Federal Aviation Administration says it will reduce air traffic at 40 “high volume” markets during the government shutdown .
While the FAA hasn’t officially released the list of airports facing flight reductions, multiple news outlets and HNN’s sources say Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye Airport is one of them.
The FAA said it was taking the action to ease the strain on air traffic controllers.
“We do recognize that controllers have been working fastidiously for the last five weeks with this huge burden over their heads of lack of compensation, and we are starting to see some evidence that the fatigue is building in the system in ways that we feel we need to work towards relieving some of that pressure,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said.
