Three Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have been booked for murder after a 35-year-old Dalit man, picked up for theft, died in custody in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district. His family has alleged custodial torture.

Officials said the victim, Sanjay Kumar Sonkar, was picked up from his home on Tuesday morning in connection with the recent theft of oil from a goods train stationed at Barua Chak railway station. The RPF men later rushed Sonkar to the government medical college where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
