The Monroe County Community College Maintenance and Improvement Millage Renewal failed to pass on the Nov. 4 ballot, with 15,789 no votes to 13,512 yes votes. This makes the second time in as many years the millage has failed.
College president Dr. Kojo Quartey released a statement regarding the renewal defeat, saying that the failure of the millage will "limit (their) ability to respond swiftly to the evolving needs of (their) students, (their) workforce and (their) region." Resources, he said, will now have to be redirected to maintain "existing infrastructure."
