Two decades ago, Jerica Carter-Mitchell became a Gainesville High volleyball legend as she helmed the Hurricanes to back-to-back state championships in 2003 and 2004.
After a scholarship to UWF, Carter-Mitchell moved to Palm Beach County. She always knew she needed to come back to Alachua County ― the place that made her.
She waited for the right opportunity. Two years ago, that moment came when there was a head volleyball coach opening at GHS. Carter-Mitchell said yes, and she brought her daughters Kinzie and Jacey with her.
