BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Three historic elections happened on this day in history.
We start with November 6, 1962, when Phil Hoff was elected as governor of Vermont.
Hoff shocked incumbent republican F. Ray Keyser, becoming the first democrat to win the governor’s office in Vermont in a hundred years.
Another first happened on this day in 1984, when Madeleine Kunin was elected governor as the first woman to hold the office in state history.
Now 41 years later, Kunin is still Vermont’s only female governor.
