Augusta can expect chilly temperatures early next week, courtesy of the polar vortex, according to the National Weather Service.
“It's going to be warm the next couple of days,” said Pierce Larkin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service Columbia, South Carolina, on Wednesday. “But by early next week, we're expecting a robust cold front to push through and usher in the coldest air mass of the season thus far.”
What is a polar vortex?
“In terms of that coming across our forecast area, it really isn't going to have a significant impact,” said Larkin. “It usually tends to break down and push into the Eastern U.S. in the middle of winter. It is a little anomalous that it’s coming through this time of year. But it won't have any impact. It’s just providing a source of really cold air
