A new ranking puts Kansas taxes in the middle of the pack compared to other states.

"Kansas came in at 23rd in this year's Index," the Tax Foundation said Nov. 3 when releasing its annual state tax competitiveness index. "The Sunflower State has a fairly standard tax code — with few features that make it either distinctly competitive or uncompetitive — and this is reflected in the state's ranking near the middle of the pack.

The index has an overall ranking and rankings across five subcategories: individual income taxes, corporate taxes, sales and excise taxes, property and wealth taxes, and unemployment insurance taxes.
