France moves to block the Shein website over sex doll scandal

PARIS (NYT) — The French government said Wednesday that it was suspending access to online retailer Shein until the company proved that its content complied with French laws, after the discovery this week of child pornography sex dolls posted for sale on its site drew nationwide furor.

The crackdown, ordered by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, added to a ballooning controversy over Shein in France. The company Wednesday opened a store in Paris, its first brick-and-mortar location in the world, drawing protesters and shoppers alike to a chaotic scene.
