POCA – Ellie Gray’s ace in the third set on Wednesday at Allen Osborne Court gave Poca's volleyball team a 3-0 win over Wayne in the Class AA Region 4 tournament co-final and put the Dots into the state tournament.
A freshman, Gray said she wasn’t nervous serving as Poca closed in on a state tournament berth, which athletic director Ashley Ellison and coach James Bailes said is the first in Dots history.
Gray’s serve at match point appeared to be a playable ball for the Pioneers, but the attempt to set up a play resulted in the ball hitting the floor to give top-seeded Poca a 25-22, 25-19, 25-13 victory.
“We kind of controlled everything, seeing what they’re giving us, make our adjustments and then proceed from that point,” Bailes said.
