Electric car drivers could soon face a new pay-per-mile tax as the Government prepares to replace revenue lost from fewer petrol and diesel vehicles on the roads.

Rachel Reeves could outline the plan in the 26 November Budget , which would mark the first major step towards a new road tax system for electric vehicles (EVs).

The i Paper revealed in October that the Chancellor was considering a number of EV-related measures in the Budget , including a new pay-per-mile scheme . New Feature
