A 41-year-old woman from Arkansas was going through treatment for breast cancer when she received a long-awaited gift. This week, she was able to meet her birth mother after decades of searching.

“I didn’t have nobody, but I will today,” Ashley Pruitt told CBS affiliate KTHV just before she was filmed meeting her biological mom for the first time. “After today, I got somebody.”

Pruitt did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for further comment.
