CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three North Carolina congressmen are urging Gov. Josh Stein to deploy the National Guard to Charlotte, citing what they describe as a growing violence crisis and critical law enforcement staffing shortages .
U.S. Reps. Mark Harris, Pat Harrigan and Chuck Edwards sent a letter dated Nov. 5, 2025, expressing "deep concern" over Stein's refusal to grant a request from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police to deploy the North Carolina National Guard to assist local law enforcement.
Harris represents North Carolina's 8th District, which includes part of east Charlotte. Edwards and Harrigan's district includes portions of Iredell County, including Lake Norman, while Edwards' 11th District covers western North Carolina near the Tennessee border.
