MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WBTW) -- Due to the federal government shutdown's impact on SNAP food benefits, Waccamaw Community Foundation reopened its WCF GIVE fund on Tuesday to help collect money for local food nonprofits to provide for low-income families.
Michael Mancuso, the CEO and president of the Murrells Inlet nonprofit, said the issue with SNAP benefits isn't to be taken lightly and he's thankful for his team for helping support the distribution nonprofits across the region. He said WCF's GIVE fund is an easy way to donate and support our neighbors.
"In Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg County, we have about 45,000 folks that depend on the SNAP program. So right now, they are kind of in limbo," he said. "I talked to our board, and we wanted to find ways to connect our donors to this
